Let people speak

A podcast that gives the mic to the people the internet attacks. Tackling online hate, mental health, and social media culture through humour

Created by Istorias Media

Let people speak - Comedy that bites back

Laissons Parler Les Gens is a French-language podcast—spiced with plenty of local Nouchi slang—hosted by the rising star of Ivorian stand-up comedy, Clentelex. The show uses humour as a "Trojan horse" to tackle heavy-hitting digital realities: online hate, mental health, and the highs and lows of social media culture.

Every two weeks, Clentelex invites an influential guest—from music idols and top digital creators to frontline activists—to pull back the curtain and speak honestly about their digital lives. The result? Raw, unmatched conversations built on openness and a deep sense of bienveillance (empathy).

In less than two years, the podcast has become one of the most listened to in Côte d’Ivoire.

Behind the mic, the show is brought to life by a dedicated three-person team based on the ground in Abidjan: Clentelex, Audrey Likound, and Wilhem Ngoumou.

Laissons Parler Les Gens is funded by the European Union. The views expressed across our episodes belong entirely to the creators and guests, and do not necessarily reflect the official position of the EU.

How LPLG became one of Côte d’Ivoire’s most popular podcasts in just one year

Laissons Parler Les Gens (“Let People Speak”) did not emerge from a well-funded media house or a large editorial operation. Conceived in Lyon and built in Abidjan by a team of three, the stand-up-comedy-meets-social-commentary format has amassed 20 million views and 100,000 followers across platforms in the space of a year.

A lean team and a hybrid skillset

At its core, LPLG is produced by three young creatives based in Abidjan, who oversee every aspect of the project: editorial direction, guest research, production logistics, and community management.

They are supported by Istorias Media core team, which provides broader infrastructure, including editing, graphic design, sound engineering and strategic input, linking the Abidjan team to a network of media professionals developed over 15 years.

The format rests on an unusual for journalism combination of skills. Stand-up comedy forms its backbone. Host Clentelex, an award-winning comedian, anchors each episode with a stage presence that allows him to engage guests and audiences while keeping the tone accessible. He also creates sketches on specific issues related to toxic online behaviour.

Around this, the team adds editorial judgement, and a close understanding of Ivorian pop culture and digital communities. The show is shaped in dialogue with its audience, refined through feedback, focus groups and listening sessions. From the beginning, LPLG was built to exist off-screen as much as online. Its live events bring together audiences from different backgrounds, creating a shared space for collective exchange.

Reframing difficult conversations though the Trojan Horse Method

LPLG is the first podcast in Côte d’Ivoire to address topics such as mental health, hate speech, gender-based violence and cultural identity through humour and popular culture.

The audiences are drawn in by humour and familiarity, then confronted with more complex discussions. A rapper speaking candidly about mental health or a public figure addressing sensitive social issues becomes possible in the world of Let People Speak.

Listen to singer Reine Ablaa as she reflects on the emotional and cultural significance of performing in Baoulé, her mother tongue. Or activist Eva Amegboh as she addresses gender-based violence with clarity and empathy, reaching audiences who might not otherwise engage with the subject.

The format operates as a form of narrative misdirection: audiences arrive for entertainment and leave having engaged with ideas they did not expect.

Laissons Parler Les Gens is funded by the European Union. The views expressed across our episodes belong entirely to the creators and guests, and do not necessarily reflect the official position of the EU.

Audrey Likound

Audrey Likound is a trained journalist who began her career in the newsrooms of Ciné+, Capa Presse, and Upside Télévision. In 2020, she co-created and co-hosted C’est dans la tête, a conversational podcast aimed at breaking the stigma around mental health. That same year, the podcast was recognized by Slate.fr and Psychologie Positive as one to watch.

In 2023, she relocated to Abidjan, where she worked as a communications officer on various projects. In 2025, she became the producer of Laissons parler les gens, a podcast conceived and created by Istorias Media in partnership with the European Union.

Her work focuses on projects that explore the impact of pop culture on society.

Clentelex, Host

A rising star of Ivorian comedy, Clentelex has gained recognition both nationally and internationally. Crowned Best Young Comedian in Côte d’Ivoire in 2019, he has continued to build on that success, winning the Comedy Breakthrough Award in 2020, followed by Best Stand-Up Comedian in Côte d’Ivoire at the Grand Prix Humour in 2021 and 2022.

He has since performed at several festivals across Africa and Europe, including Rire au Togo and the Montreux Comedy Festival in Switzerland, before embarking on a tour of Paris comedy clubs such as Paname, Goku Comedy, and Barbès Comedy Club.

In 2021, he debuted his first one-man show, Abobolais, at Dycoco, a performance rooted in pride for his hometown. In 2023, he created the participatory show On écrira un spectacle ensemble at Bushman Café. The experience proved deeply therapeutic, helping him overcome a creative block following 2022.

Wilhem Ngoumou, Community Manager

For over four years, Wilhem Ngoumou has supported artists, labels, and cultural events, from digital strategy to on-the-ground production. He previously worked with Gold Prod in Abidjan, where he managed large-scale concerts and showcases across Central and West Africa.
